Tax Managing Director, Core Tax Services
About the role
The Tax Managing Director advises clients on tax implications, evaluates and selects alternative actions to reduce tax burden and cost of compliance, and acts as the primary client contact for complex tax issues. This role involves applying knowledge to understand potential tax issues, recognizing and communicating risks, and making top-level decisions regarding filings and question resolutions.
Responsibilities
- Tax Compliance: Ensures clients comply with all applicable authorities while minimizing tax and reporting burdens, and oversees compliance with Firm policies and the BDO Tax Quality Manual.
- Research: Identifies and conducts necessary research, clearly framing issues and reporting analyses.
- Tax Consulting: Assists in developing and implementing methods to maximize client benefits, especially by reducing taxes or expenses.
- Tax Specialization: Develops in-depth understanding of specific areas of taxation, such as international, SALT, estate planning, and others, and advises clients accordingly.
- Strategy Development: Introduces and develops new or improved ideas to benefit clients, the Firm, or Firm personnel, such as reducing taxes or expenses or providing non-tax benefits.
- Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervises associates, senior associates, and managers, schedules and manages workload, and provides performance feedback.
Requirements
Required: Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics; Masters in Accountancy or Taxation preferred; ten (10) or more years of relevant tax experience; CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (or the equivalent of one of these designations); possession of other professional degrees or certifications applicable to role; proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and tax research databases; strong analytical, research, and critical thinking skills; executive presence and ability to act as primary client contact.
Qualifications
Preferred: Industry expertise in one or more tax specialties; prior supervisory experience; proficiency with tax compliance process software.

California Range: $190,000 - $335,000
Colorado Range: $185,000 - $225,000
Illinois Range: $175,000 - $250,000
Maryland Range: $185,000 - $260,000
Massachusetts Range: $215,000 - $300,000
Minnesota Range: $170,000 - $250,000
New Jersey Range: $190,000 - $350,000
Ohio Range: $150,000 - $300,000
NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $230,000 - $350,000
Washington Range: $196,400 - $249,400
Washington DC Range: $190,000 - $300,000
