Chicago-based accounting and financial advisory firm specializing in accounting, assurance, tax planning, mergers and acquisitions, and business consulting.
About the role
Our client is a high-end, mid-size CPA firm with 16 CPAs operating across audit, tax, M&A advisory, and forensic accounting. They work exclusively on the higher end of accounting with zero bookkeeping or payroll tax work. Their audit department is their bread and butter, specializing in PCAOB-compliant audits for public companies. They have notable clientele with frequent international engagements, guide clients through the public offering process, and handle M&A due diligence and deal negotiations, primarily on the buyer side.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage the preparation and review of corporate, partnership, individual, and trust federal and state income tax returns.
- Supervise and review the preparation of quarterly estimated tax payments and tax projections.
- Manage and coordinate tax audits.
- Provide innovative tax planning strategies and compliance expertise to clients; manage to budget.
- Maintain active communication with clients to manage expectations, ensure satisfaction, and lead change efforts effectively.
- Consult, work with, and service client base to make recommendations on business and process improvement.
- Identify and mitigate tax risks.
- Coordinate accounting staff and assess their performance.
- Manage tax provision and tax compliance process.
- Improve processes by developing or implementing best practices.
- Ensure all tax regulations are followed within the company.
- Assist with tax exempt issues as needed.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in a public accounting role.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification is required.
- In-depth knowledge of tax accounting, tax compliance and all types of tax returns.
- Good at meeting deadlines and solving problems.
- Exceptional client service along with the ability to develop excellent client relationships.
- Strong leadership and personnel management skills.
- Analytical skills with detail orientation.
- Previous experience with corporate taxation, consolidations, and partnerships.
- Prior experience with tax provisions preferred.
- Proficient in MS Office (especially Excel) and good knowledge of relevant software (e.g. ProSystem fx Tax).
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; Master’s degree in Taxation is a plus.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, with great accuracy, organization, attention to detail, and follow-through.
- Ability to carry out assigned projects to their completion.
- Ability to communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, and management.
- Strong research and analytical skills.
