TAX AUDITOR, BOARD OF EQUALIZATION

About the role

The California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA) seeks to hire multiple Tax Auditors to join the Local Revenue Branch (LRB). This position reports to a Supervising Tax Auditor (STA II) and is responsible for analyzing and recommending on petitions filed by local and special taxing jurisdictions and consultants.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and make recommendations on petitions filed by local and special taxing jurisdictions and consultants for accuracy and completeness.
  • Contact taxpayers and local jurisdictions via written correspondence or telephone to investigate and resolve inquiries, including billings and response letters.
  • Train lower-level staff, review and approve Tax Technician reallocations and redistributions, and evaluate tax distributions needing further investigation.
  • Ensure inquiries are timely investigated and resolved.

Requirements

This position requires employees to be fingerprinted and pass a background investigation. The California Department of Tax and Fee Administration participates in E-Verify and will verify your eligibility to work in the U.S.

Qualifications

For this classification, applicants must meet the Minimum Qualifications (MQs) as outlined in the Classification Specification. These qualifications include a bachelor's degree and relevant experience in tax administration or a closely related field.

Skills

Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and excellent communication abilities are essential for success in this role. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with tax laws and regulations are also beneficial.

Pay

The starting salary range for this position is $4,695.00 - $6,173.00 A and $5,805.00 - $7,632.00 B, depending on qualifications and experience.

Schedule

This is a hybrid position, allowing for some remote work while maintaining a minimum number of in-office days per week. Schedules are subject to change.
