About the role

Under the general direction of the Business Taxes Administrator III, the Supervising Tax Auditor III (STA III) provides statewide leadership for the Revenue & Jurisdiction Services Program within the Local Revenue Branch. The incumbent oversees allocation, distribution, reconciliation, and fiscal governance functions supporting over $26 billion in annual local tax distributions across 1,000+ jurisdictions. The STA III serves as CDTFA’s statewide authority for allocation policy, CROS system governance, legislative implementation, cross-divisional coordination, and resolution of complex statewide allocation issues.

This position may be eligible for partial telework for eligible candidates residing in California, with hybrid schedules requiring in-office attendance a minimum number of days per week.

Responsibilities

  • Provide statewide leadership for the Revenue & Jurisdiction Services Program.
  • Oversee allocation, distribution, reconciliation, and fiscal governance of over $26 billion in annual local tax distributions.
  • Serve as CDTFA’s statewide authority for allocation policy and CROS system governance.
  • Implement legislative changes and coordinate cross-divisionally to resolve complex statewide allocation issues.

Requirements

  • Must meet the Minimum Qualifications for the Supervising Tax Auditor III classification.
  • Eligibility for promotional exams is limited to:
    • Permanent civil service appointees with CDTFA,
    • Current or former legislative employees (2+ years),
    • Current or former non-elected executive branch exempt employees (2+ consecutive years), or
    • Honorably discharged U.S. military veterans (with DD 214 verification).
  • Must pass a background investigation and fingerprinting.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. (E-Verify participation).

Pay

$9,750.00 - $12,813.00 per month. New state employees are hired at the minimum salary of the classification.

Schedule

Permanent, full-time position with hybrid telework options available for eligible candidates.
