About the role
We are looking for an experienced Tax Attorney to join a collaborative legal practice in Garden City, New York. This position offers the opportunity to advise business clients on sophisticated tax matters tied to corporate transactions, planning strategies, and organizational decisions. The ideal candidate will bring sound judgment, strong technical knowledge, and a practical approach to supporting closely held, middle-market, and larger companies.
Responsibilities
- Guide business clients and owners through federal, state, and local tax considerations that affect operations, transactions, and long-term planning.
- Design tax-conscious approaches for mergers, acquisitions, reorganizations, and related strategic business deals.
- Develop planning strategies for privately held companies, larger organizations, and high-net-worth individuals with complex tax needs.
- Advise on business entity selection, structural changes, and governance-related issues from a tax and corporate perspective.
- Partner with attorneys across transactional practice areas to address tax implications within commercial and corporate matters.
- Research complex tax questions and prepare clear written analyses, memoranda, and recommendations for clients and internal teams.
- Support the development of less experienced attorneys through guidance, feedback, and knowledge sharing on transactional tax work.
- Contribute to practice growth by helping create reference materials, model documents, and efficient legal resources for tax matters.
Requirements
- J.D. from an accredited law school and active admission to the New York Bar.
- At least 5 years of tax law experience in a law firm setting.
- Demonstrated knowledge of tax planning, business entity structuring, and transaction-related tax issues.
- Background supporting mergers, acquisitions, and other corporate deals is strongly preferred.
- Strong legal writing, drafting, analytical, and client advisory capabilities.
- Ability to manage work independently while collaborating effectively with attorneys and clients in a team-driven environment.
