About the role
Optical Tooling Technicians are responsible for critical ship and module alignments and measurements using a variety of 3-dimensional and standard optic tooling. These alignments/measurements are used to develop cut lines, align and install ship components, support machining operations, pair major modules and gather measurements to support ship certification.
Responsibilities
- Determine the proper tooling for the job
- Move the tooling to the job
- Complete the measurements outlined on configuration-controlled requirements documents
- Provide data to Accuracy Control representatives
- Work with them to confirm the solutions required
- Routinely interface with Engineering, other Trades, and Ship’s Management
Requirements
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Solid background in surveying/machine shop dimensional inspection
- Prominent math skills
- Computer skills
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- 1+ year of experience with precision measurement of tolerances
Preferred
- An associate’s degree in manufacturing/engineering technology, computer science, metrology or related fields
- Strong math background in geometry and trigonometry
- Experience with 3D programming
- Previous Metrology/Optical Tool experience
- 1+ year of experience in construction, fabrication or manufacturing (Naval and Non-Naval)
- Military/Navy experience is preferred
