About the role
This Systems Administrator position, based in Buffalo, NY, is part of a team that contributes to all system projects from conception through maintenance. The role involves maintaining datacenter and branch systems solutions, as well as end-user computing (EUC) management platforms.
Responsibilities
- Implementation, monitoring, and administration of system-related solutions, including server solutions (traditional 3-tier and HCI), NAS/SAN, backup, SaaS integrations, and monitoring/maintenance platforms (update/patch deployment).
- Troubleshooting complex systems issues and collaborating with Security or Network teams as needed.
- Serving as an escalation point for the EUC team for platform issues.
- Reporting environment operational status by gathering and prioritizing information.
- Maintaining and improving solution efficiencies and security through continuous monitoring, research, and structured upgrades.
- Contributing to suitability, stability, and performance by assisting in defining policy and “best practices,” monitoring, and reporting on adherence.
- Creating and maintaining documentation on systems and processes for internal use and user education.
- Completing related tasks to satisfy departmental and company missions.
- Demonstrating commitment to a safe working environment that promotes health and well-being.
- Travel and/or extended or off-work hours may be required.
Requirements
Qualified applicants will contribute the following:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in a computer systems-related field or equivalent experience in IT.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years in VMWare and/or Windows Server administration.
Skills
- Microsoft operating systems and domain services (MS Active Directory, DNS, DHCP).
- Server hardware architecture and design (traditional 3-tier and CI/HCI, e.g., VRTX and VXRail).
- Office 365 Administration.
- VMWare, including VSAN.
- Backup and recovery strategy (vendor VEEAM).
- Virtual EUC (e.g., Citrix XenApp, VDI, RDP).
- Familiarity a plus: Storage Area Networks (Dell Compellent, NetApp, EMC), CMP (including Morpheus), basic knowledge of switching and routing, Lotus Domino, monitoring systems (PTRG/Nagios/Splunk).
