System Sterile Processing Manager of Education and Quality - Sterile Process (Days)
About the Role
The System Sterile Processing Educator implements education and competency assessments, quality assurance, and process improvements for the High-Level Disinfection and Sterile Processing (HLD S) department across the Harris Health enterprise. This role serves as a resource and educator in sterile processing and high-level disinfection, possessing in-depth technical expertise, collaboration skills, and competency in adult education.
The position is responsible for orientation, continuing education, competency evaluation, and ongoing in-services for all Sterile Processing Department (SPD) staff and affiliated personnel. It develops, administers, and measures educational and quality assurance materials based on regulatory, industry, and evidence-based guidelines. With a focus on patient and employee safety, the educator collaborates with department leadership, Peri-Op management, surgeons, Infection Prevention and Control, Clinical Resource nurses, ambulatory care clinics, correctional health, and other committees.
Responsibilities
- Implement education and competency assessments for sterile processing and high-level disinfection.
- Develop, administer, and measure educational and quality assurance materials based on regulatory, industry, and evidence-based guidelines.
- Conduct orientation, continuing education, competency evaluations, and in-services for SPD staff and affiliated personnel.
- Collaborate with department leadership, Peri-Op management, surgeons, Infection Prevention and Control, and other stakeholders to ensure patient and employee safety.
- Serve as a resource and educator in sterile processing and high-level disinfection fields.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Five years of related experience in sterile processing, high-level disinfection, or an operating room.
- Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) required upon hire.
- Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS) or Surgical Instrument Specialist Certification (CSIS) required or must be obtained within two years of employment.
- Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER) or Flexible Endoscope Reprocessor (GI Scope Certification, CFER) required or must be obtained within two years of employment.
Skills
- Exceptional verbal communication (public speaking).
- Strong writing skills for correspondence and reports.
- Proficiency in MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel, MS Outlook, and PC usage.
