System Administrator III - Linux
About the opportunity
The Systems Administrator III - Linux administers, secures, and optimizes enterprise Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) environments across on-premises, virtual, and cloud-based infrastructures in a remote and on-site work environment. This role supports system reliability, performance, automation, patch management, vulnerability remediation, and identity management integration while ensuring the security and availability of mission-critical systems. Working closely with cross-functional teams, the Linux Systems Administrator supports secure, scalable infrastructure operations and cloud migration initiatives.
What you will do in this role
- Maintain secure, highly available Linux environments
- Implement and maintain Linux configuration management, patch management, system hardening, security controls, and vulnerability remediation in accordance with organizational and federal requirements
- Integrate Linux systems with enterprise identity and access management solutions, including Microsoft Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID
- Monitor system performance, troubleshoot complex technical issues, conduct root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions to ensure system reliability and availability
- Conduct vulnerability assessments, evaluate security findings, coordinate remediation efforts, and support compliance audits and regulatory requirements
- Support infrastructure automation initiatives and develop/maintain automation solutions using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform and Ansible, and scripting languages including Python, PowerShell, Bash, and others
- Support and optimize virtualized and cloud-hosted environments, including VMware, Microsoft Azure, and AWS, while evaluating and recommending technologies that improve performance, security, scalability, and operational efficiency
- Collaborate with network, cloud, cybersecurity, application, and end-user support teams, and provide technical reporting and status updates to the onsite Federal IT Lead and stakeholders
What you will bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 8+ years of Linux systems administration experience
- 5+ years of experience supporting Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) environments
- Experience integrating Linux systems with Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, or enterprise Identity and Access Management (IAM)/Identity, Credential, and Access Management (ICAM) platforms
- Experience working within federal compliance frameworks, including NIST and FISMA, and supporting vulnerability management and security control requirements
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automation tools, including Terraform, Ansible, Python, and PowerShell
- Experience supporting cloud environments, including Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services (AWS), in production environments
