About the role
The state supported living centers serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are medically fragile or who have behavioral problems. The centers provide campus-based direct services and supports at 13 centers located throughout the state.
Responsibilities
- Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.
- Places, answers, and transfers local and long-distance calls in an efficient manner.
- Provides relief for other operators for coverage during illness, vacation and other emergency situations.
- Responds to emergency calls on and off campus.
- Greets visitors, and answers questions in a pleasant and professional manner.
- Maintains records.
- Maintains fire alarm system and reports trouble.
Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited high school or GED, plus 2 years’ work experience as a switchboard or console operator or 2 years’ experience as a receptionist with multi-line phone system.
- Some experience in Microsoft Programs, such as Word, Excel, Outlook, preferred.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of the operation of switchboard equipment or ability to learn.
- Working knowledge of facility and department policies and procedures.
- Ability to react calmly and quickly in emergency situations.
- Ability to type, keep records, file accurately, and have some basic computer skills.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to work harmoniously with fellow employees and interact harmoniously with individuals, their family members visitors and the general public.
- Must be available to work varied shifts, as needed.
- Must be able to hear paging system and monitor fire alarm system.
