Switchboard Operator

About the role

The state supported living centers serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are medically fragile or who have behavioral problems. The centers provide campus-based direct services and supports at 13 centers located throughout the state.

Responsibilities

  • Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.
  • Places, answers, and transfers local and long-distance calls in an efficient manner.
  • Provides relief for other operators for coverage during illness, vacation and other emergency situations.
  • Responds to emergency calls on and off campus.
  • Greets visitors, and answers questions in a pleasant and professional manner.
  • Maintains records.
  • Maintains fire alarm system and reports trouble.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or GED, plus 2 years’ work experience as a switchboard or console operator or 2 years’ experience as a receptionist with multi-line phone system.
  • Some experience in Microsoft Programs, such as Word, Excel, Outlook, preferred.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the operation of switchboard equipment or ability to learn.
  • Working knowledge of facility and department policies and procedures.
  • Ability to react calmly and quickly in emergency situations.
  • Ability to type, keep records, file accurately, and have some basic computer skills.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to work harmoniously with fellow employees and interact harmoniously with individuals, their family members visitors and the general public.
  • Must be available to work varied shifts, as needed.
  • Must be able to hear paging system and monitor fire alarm system.

$2,481.75 - $3,404.91 per month

Schedule

Evening shift: 2p-10p and 10p-6a
