Sustainability & Resilience Manager
Groton, Connecticut seeks a creative, collaborative, and motivated individual to lead the Sustainability and Resilience division within the Planning, Development, and Public Works Department. This role focuses on implementing the town’s equity-centered Climate Action Plan, managing grants, and partnering with diverse stakeholders. Groton is an economic driver in southeastern Connecticut, offering a balanced quality of life with diverse educational options, historic sites, and outdoor spaces.
About the Role
The Sustainability and Resilience Manager leads a division of two employees and is responsible for developing and implementing Climate Ready Groton, the town’s recently adopted action plan. This position aims to reduce the carbon footprint of municipal agencies and the broader community, achieve carbon neutrality, and integrate climate change preparedness into municipal projects, planning, and permit review. The role ensures town staff and the community have the knowledge, resources, and support to mitigate climate risks.
Responsibilities
- Lead the implementation of the town’s Climate Action Plan.
- Manage grants and partnerships with diverse stakeholders.
- Develop strategies to reduce municipal and community carbon footprints.
- Integrate climate resilience into municipal projects, planning, and permit review.
- Provide resources and support to town staff and the community on climate preparedness.
- Supervise division staff and oversee sustainability initiatives.
Requirements
- Master’s Degree in Sustainability, Planning, Environmental Science, Sustainable Business, Engineering, Public Administration, or a related field, plus eight (8) years of relevant experience. A combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Knowledge of climate change and experience implementing Climate and Sustainability Action Plans.
- Strong community engagement and partnership development skills.
- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills with attention to detail.
- Valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s License (must maintain throughout employment).
Preferred Qualifications
- Supervisory experience, particularly in municipal settings.
- Experience with municipal facilities.

Pay
$86,370.65 – $120,918.91 annually, dependent on qualifications.
Schedule
Full-time, non-union, exempt position.
