About the role

The Sustainability and Resilience Manager leads a division of two employees in the Department of Planning, Development, and Public Works. This position is responsible for the development and implementation of Climate Ready Groton, the town’s recently adopted action plan that serves as a framework for a coherent set of strategies, policies, and programs dedicated to reducing the carbon footprint of governmental agencies and the Town as a whole. The role focuses on positive environmental impact, municipal cost savings, and reduced energy consumption with the goal of achieving carbon neutrality for the Town.

The position will integrate preparedness and climate change projections into municipal projects, actions, planning, and permit review to ensure that town staff and the community have the knowledge, support, and resources necessary to reduce their vulnerability to the increasing risks associated with climate change.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Sustainability and Resilience division within the Planning, Development, and Public Works Department.
  • Implement the equity-centered Climate Action Plan.
  • Manage numerous grants related to sustainability and resilience initiatives.
  • Partner with a diverse group of stakeholders to advance sustainability goals.
  • Develop and execute strategies, policies, and programs to reduce the Town’s carbon footprint.
  • Ensure climate change preparedness and projections are integrated into municipal projects and planning.
  • Engage with the community to provide resources and support for climate resilience.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Sustainability, Planning, Environmental Science, Sustainable Business, Engineering, Public Administration, or a related field, plus eight (8) years of relevant experience.
  • A combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this position may be considered in lieu of stated requirements.
  • Knowledge of climate change and implementation of Climate and Sustainability Action Plans.
  • Experience with community engagement and partnership development.
  • Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills, with attention to detail.
