About the Role
This position is part of the Survey Specialist Family (Levels 03-05) and is primarily responsible for field land surveying activities, including:
- Operation, setup, care, and use of assigned land surveying equipment, including electronic equipment and accessories
- Accurate collection of survey data, performing necessary data edits, and preparation of data for mapping
- Preparation and review of required land survey notes and documentation
- Coordination of GPS data gathering and processing
- Communication and coordination with field crews, private landowners, corporations, and government agencies
- Research and document compilation for a variety of projects
This position requires daily demanding physical labor, including walking long distances, manual cutting of brush, and transporting equipment in various weather conditions and terrains such as hillsides, marshes, and thick woods. The role involves 100% travel, with the home location determined by the successful candidate’s residence. Relocation benefits are not available.
Requirements
- Alabama Professional Land Surveyor’s License or ability to obtain the license within 5 years
- Alabama Driver’s License (DOT Certification required upon employment)
- Extensive knowledge of survey calculations
- Experience in survey data collection and processing (highly preferred)
- Experience in GPS data collection and processing (highly preferred)
- Land survey-related CAD drafting (highly preferred)
Skills & Knowledge
- Operation, setup, care, and use of surveying tools and equipment, including electronic equipment and accessories
- Surveying procedures for various survey types
- Land survey mathematical calculations
- Field electronic data collection and processing
- GPS procedures, data acquisition, and data processing
- Alabama’s “Standards of Practice” for surveying and Public Land Survey System (U.S. System of Rectangular Surveys)
- Research and understanding of land rights and legal documents
- Proficiency in Computer-Aided Drafting (CAD) and Microsoft Office Products
- Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to adapt to rapidly changing circumstances, manage multiple tasks, and work efficiently under time constraints
- Strong verbal, listening, and written communication skills
- Strong teamwork and customer service focus
- Working knowledge of applicable safety rules and regulations
