Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA) is seeking an instructor for its online, Fall Semester 2026, Survey of Science course for students in grades 8-12. This IMSA High School equivalency course will include a foundational survey of biology, chemistry, and physics through an inquiry lens to help students understand essential concepts and develop the reasoning skills essential to engage in rigorous science practices. This is a temporary part-time, 10-month, exempt position completed remotely. The course is mostly asynchronous and runs from late September through early January, with a second offering from January through May. Expected hours vary by enrollment but typically total 10 hours per week for a cohort of approximately 20 students. The position begins in August 2026, with the course starting in early September.

Responsibilities

  • Guide and mentor a group of high school students through a series of online learning modules
  • Teach students the foundations of biology, chemistry, and physics through an inquiry lens
  • Utilize the Canvas learning management system
  • Teach a diverse group of students in a multidisciplinary environment
  • Use evolving technological tools to engage students in a virtual classroom

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in education or STEM with at least 5 years of relevant science experience at the secondary level
  • Broad content background in science
  • Deep understanding of how to effectively communicate with students via a virtual learning environment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Working Conditions

  • Work will be performed remotely
  • Substantial time is spent working on a computer
  • Requires written and verbal communication, and hearing and visual capabilities (reasonable accommodations, including assistive technology, may be made for qualified individuals with disabilities)

Pay

$48.00 per hour

This is a part-time, non-exempt, 10-month, employment-at-will position without benefits eligibility.
