Position Summary
The Program Instructor (Hourly) – Science for Middle and/or High School demonstrates an overall commitment to the policies and procedures of the New Jersey GEAR UP/College Bound program. This position supports students through academic instruction during year-round programming, including the Academic Year (fall and spring) and Summer Sessions (July through mid-August).
Essential Functions
- Provide grade-level science instruction that prepares students for success in high school and college while integrating reading and writing skills into the curriculum.
- Assist students in developing communication, study, time management, and test-taking skills.
- Help students build confidence in science while strengthening problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
- Support the development of science, mathematics, reading, and language skills in preparation for state-mandated assessments, including PARCC, PSAT, SAT, and ACT (or their successor assessments).
- Attend all required staff development and training sessions and submit typed lesson plans in a timely manner.
- Create a positive learning environment that encourages student engagement, self-motivation, and academic achievement.
- Maintain accurate academic records and student files.
- Aid in the administration, design, and evaluation of standardized diagnostic and placement assessments.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Prerequisite Qualifications
- Certification in the core subject area of Science.
- Experience working with minority and disadvantaged students is preferred.
