Survey CAD Tech
About the role
LJB Inc. is a fast-growing national engineering firm specializing in civil and structural engineering and geospatial, safety, health, and environmental services. We are seeking candidates to fill the position of Survey CAD Technician with conventional and GPS surveying experience to join our team in Dallas, TX.
Responsibilities
The Survey CAD Technician will spend approximately 60% of time in the field performing surveying and data collection activities and 40% of time in the office interpreting/analyzing field information and producing CAD deliverables.
- Produce accurate, client-ready survey drawings and exhibits by interpreting field information and applying sound surveying principles, CAD standards, and internal quality benchmarks.
- Perform field surveying and data collection activities to support project deliverables and ensure data quality.
- Establish, maintain, and continuously refine standardized CAD templates, layering systems, and annotation guidelines to ensure consistent quality, increased efficiency, and ease of data management across all projects.
- Lead the implementation of rigorous quality checks on completed CAD deliverables, identifying and resolving discrepancies before release and proactively recommending workflow enhancements to minimize errors, reduce rework, and improve overall production timelines.
- Collaborate closely with field and office teams to clarify scope and resolve conflicts between field conditions and plan intent.
- Maintain knowledge and understanding of federal, state and local surveying laws; rules, regulations and county ordinances; and policies, procedures and best practices related to land surveying.
- Safely operate, maintain and care for survey equipment.
Additional duties and responsibilities include the ability to work extended hours, including some weekends, outdoors in all types of weather and terrain conditions, and lift approximately 50 lbs. and do repetitive work such as lifting, bending and standing for long periods of time.
Requirements
- 3+ years of field survey and data collection experience.
- 2+ years of office experience interpreting/analyzing field information and producing CAD deliverables.
- Extensive hands-on experience in CAD with proven success producing survey drawings/exhibits, applying CAD standards, and performing plan/drawing analysis to support office deliverables.
- Demonstrated, practical field surveying experience, ensuring a thorough understanding of data collection techniques, instrumentation, and best practices that inform accurate and efficient CAD conversion.
- Demonstrated track record of implementing and managing QA/QC protocols, identifying systemic issues, and driving continuous improvement initiatives to enhance deliverable quality and project workflow.
- Valid driver’s license and satisfactory results on a Motor Vehicle Record check.

Benefits
