About the role
A Surgical Technologist assists surgeons during procedures across all age groups, ensuring patient safety and surgical efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Prepare operating rooms by practicing aseptic techniques, setting up instruments, and verifying surgical sites.
- Assist in patient care tasks, connect clinical equipment, and support wound assessment and dressing changes.
- Maintain accurate supply counts, handle specimens, and dispose of sharps and linens appropriately.
- Participate in surgical briefings, verify medication labeling, and perform billing for services and equipment.
- Support admission/discharge processes, act as a preceptor for students, and adhere to policies and standards.
- Perform quality control, assist with specimen collection, patient transport, and emergency procedures.
- Participate in on-call rotations and contribute to a collaborative surgical team environment.
Qualifications
- Graduate of a Specialty Training Program in Surgical Technology is required.
- Applicants post-December 2020 must become certified within six months of graduation.
- Strong knowledge of sterile techniques, patient assistance, and surgical protocols.
- Ability to work in a clinical environment, follow policies, and support team members.
