Surgical Technologist

About the role
As a Labor and Delivery Surgical Technologist at North Colorado Medical Center, you will select and arrange surgical tools, supplies, and equipment during surgery. Scrub techs are the first team members to scrub in and provide sponges, dressings, and instruments to the doctor as needed during procedures. You may also provide business support to the department, including assigned administrative tasks.
Responsibilities
- Prepares for surgical procedures by pulling appropriate instruments and supplies and ensuring good working order.
- Reviews case carts for correct instruments and supplies.
- Plans ahead for upcoming surgical case needs and anticipates the surgeon's needs.
- Passes instruments, retracts tissue, and operates equipment during surgery while demonstrating aseptic technique and universal precautions.
- Disposes of sharps and trash and places used supplies into case carts for processing.
- Participates in counting sharps, instruments, and sponges.
- Prepares instruments for cleaning following each case and ensures surgeon preference cards and pick lists are accurate.
- Assists with OR turnover between cases and participates in stocking, replenishing supplies, and cleaning operating rooms.
- Follows safety procedures for medication labeling, specimen handling, sharps handling, time-out procedures, radiation and laser safety, and infection control.
- Participates in emergency call rotation.
- Provides business support to the department, including assigned administrative tasks.
Requirements
- High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Where applicable, must be registered with State Regulatory Agency.
- Manual dexterity and ability to maintain professional decorum in highly stressful emergent situations.
- Ability to be conscientious, organized, and orderly, and respond quickly to the needs of the surgeon and patient.
- Must stay abreast of new developments in the field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Graduation from a certified school of surgical technology or two years of operating room experience.
- Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
Schedule
Full-Time | Night Shift: Three 12-hour shifts per week (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM). Weekend rotations are required. Enjoy a flat rate $1.50/hour weekend shift differential and a $5 night shift differential when applicable.
Pay
Estimated pay range: $23.16 - $34.74 per hour. Actual pay determined at offer will be based on years of relevant work experience, education, certifications, skills, and geographic location, along with a review of current employees in similar roles to ensure pay equity.
