Surgical Tech/Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Team Lead

About the role

The LPN on Maternal Child Health is responsible for direct patient care to all patients within the Maternal Child Health department. The position works collaboratively with all department members to implement and evaluate the patient's physical, psychological, emotional, educational, and spiritual needs under the direction of a Registered Professional Nurse. Strong interpersonal and excellent communication skills are required, as well as the ability to interact with people from a variety of cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Responsibilities

• Dispenses medication within scope of practice and accurately documents in patients' EMR.
• Plans for care of patients, demonstrating the ability to effectively prioritize both expected and unanticipated needs.
• Involves patients and families in establishing care goals.
• Obtains data related to patient care and records accurately in the patients' EMR.
• Reports abnormal findings or changes in mental and emotional conditions of the patient to the RN (e.g., changes in vital signs, abnormal weight gain or loss, inability to locate a fetal heart rate, increase in pain).
• Responds promptly to call bells and patient needs.
• Knows what surgical procedure is being performed, follows AORN Guidelines/Hospital P&P for surgical hand scrub, anticipates surgeon's needs, ensures a "time out" has been called before handing scalpel to the surgeon, and maintains a sterile field.
• Appropriately stocks all areas of the department, including the OR, and performs bi-weekly audits of the OR.
• Knows how to appropriately perform and document a hearing screen.
• Appropriately sets up, cleans (including equipment), and stocks after a delivery and C-section.

Requirements

• Current NYS LPN license.
• Repetitive use of hands and fingers (e.g., use of the computer keyboard).
• Light lifting in regards to patient care.
• Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time as it pertains to patient care.
• Must be physically able to operate the equipment used for the job.

Preferred Qualifications

• Will obtain BLS during introductory period, ACLS, PALS, and NRP within 6 months of hire.
• Previous experience in Maternal Child Health.

Schedule

• Full-time day position with weekend and holiday rotation requirements.
• Exact hours to be discussed during interview.

Pay

Standard rate of $23.55 - $24.98 plus additional $2 Lead Pay.
