Responsibilities
- Demonstrates through clinical practice a clear understanding of sterile techniques and has a working knowledge of the specialized instrumentation and equipment required for a variety of specialty procedures.
- Demonstrates competency to operate all specialty instruments, supplies, and equipment to at least one tertiary specialty service.
- Responsible for the maintenance of an orderly surgical field and for consistently passing instruments and supplies quickly and efficiently to the surgeon.
- Able to anticipate and prioritize the needs of the various steps associated with the procedure.
- Takes part in sponge, needle and instruments counts as dictated by the procedure.
- Responsible for maintaining the surgical specimen in a manner which identifies and preserves them for pathology evaluation.
- Assists in ordering and stocking of specialty supplies under the direction of management staff and departmental guidelines.
- In collaboration with a Registered Nurse, serves as a technical subject matter expert for at least one tertiary specialty.
- Provides scrub services for major procedures in at least 2 surgical specialties (independently with high physician satisfaction).
- Prepares and conducts technical performance-oriented training related to specialty service.
- In collaboration with the clinical leadership, assists in workflow process improvement activities, contributes to organizational effectiveness, and demonstrates career growth and development.
- Transports and delivers items, equipment, and medications (excluding controlled substances and IV chemotherapy drugs) throughout the facility.
- Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
- Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
- When directed by clinical specialist, inventories and orders specialty instruments, supplies unique to specialty.
- Participates in the clinical orientation of SPD staff, serving as a role model and technical resource.
- Dependable and reliable in performance of Surgical Tech I and II duties.
- Performs all tasks in a manner that is cost effective.

Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Successful completion of: Surgical Technology training program; or Orlando Health training program.
- Four (4) year surgical tech experience. (CST and two (2) years of surgical tech experience may substitute for the required experience).
- Maintains current BLS/HealthCare Provider certification.
