Surgical Tech III

Position Summary

Demonstrates through clinical practice a clear understanding of sterile techniques and has a working knowledge of the specialized instrumentation and equipment required for a variety of specialty procedures.

Responsibilities

• Maintains an orderly surgical field and passes instruments and supplies quickly and efficiently to the surgeon.
• Anticipates and prioritizes the needs of the various steps associated with the procedure.
• Takes part in sponge, needle, and instrument counts as dictated by the procedure.
• Maintains the surgical specimen in a manner that identifies and preserves them for pathology evaluation.
• Assists in ordering and stocking of specialty supplies under the direction of management staff and departmental guidelines.
• In collaboration with a Registered Nurse, serves as a technical subject matter expert for at least one tertiary specialty.
• Provides scrub services for major procedures in at least two surgical specialties (independently with high physician satisfaction).
• Prepares and conducts technical performance-oriented training related to specialty service.
• Serves as a preceptor to perioperative personnel rotating through the scrub roles associated with their primary specialty(s) and/or second circulates on major tertiary procedures.
• Collaborates with surgeons and proactively addresses case needs when performing duties in either the scrub or second circulator roles.
• Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
• Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• Education/Training: High school graduate or equivalent. Successful completion of Surgical Technology training program; or Orlando Health training program.
• Licensure/Certification: Maintains current BLS/HealthCare Provider certification.
• Experience: Four (4) years surgical tech experience. (CST and two (2) years of surgical tech experience may substitute for the required experience).
