Position Summary
Surgical Tech III at Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedics Institute (OHJOI) - OHJOI Surgery Department.
About the Role
A full-time position with a 3x12 schedule, days.
Responsibilities
- Maintains an orderly surgical field and passes instruments and supplies quickly and efficiently to the surgeon.
- Anticipates and prioritizes the needs of the various steps associated with the procedure.
- Takes part in sponge, needle, and instrument counts as dictated by the procedure.
- Maintains the surgical specimen for pathology evaluation.
- Assists in ordering and stocking of specialty supplies under the direction of management staff and departmental guidelines.
- In collaboration with a Registered Nurse, serves as a technical subject matter expert for at least one tertiary specialty.
- Provides scrub services for major procedures in at least two surgical specialties (independently with high physician satisfaction).
- Prepares and conducts technical performance-oriented training related to specialty service.
- Serves as a preceptor to perioperative personnel rotating through the scrub roles associated with their primary specialty(s) and/or second circulates on major tertiary procedures.
- Collaborates with surgeons and proactively addresses case needs when performing duties in either the scrub or second circulator roles.
- Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
- Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
- Participates in the clinical orientation of SPD staff, serving as a role model and technical resource.
- Performs all tasks in a manner that is cost-effective.
- Participates in departmental performance improvement activities.
- Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
- Contributes to organizational effectiveness and demonstrates career growth and development.
Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Successful completion of: Surgical Technology training program; or Orlando Health training program.
- Four (4) years surgical tech experience. (CST and two (2) years of surgical tech experience may substitute for the required experience).
- Maintains current BLS/HealthCare Provider certification.
