About the role

Responsible for scheduling hospital-based procedures/surgeries in accordance with physician’s orders and insurance requirements, ensuring all necessary paperwork and required tests needed prior to surgery are accurately completed, and clearly communicating pre- and post-surgery instructions to patients.

Maintains and manages resources, including insurance portal access, and provides consistent documentation in EPIC to support the obtained insurance authorization.

Communicates changes in payer and/or federal regulatory guidelines to their manager, pharmacy staff, providers and other clinical departments, as applicable.

Communicates with patient to provide pre- and post-surgery instructions, and obtains completed consent forms and required tests or preparations needed prior to surgery.

Prepares and distributes surgery packets to patients.

Keeps physician and clinical staff informed regarding pre-op testing and maintains updated documentation and charts available for physician review.

Coordinates with hospital staff for scheduling according to assigned block time and collaborates with hospital teams for inpatient case coordination and add-ons.

Surensures necessary H&P, surgical clearance, blood work and other patient tests are completed.

Scans all necessary clinical documents.

Contacts insurance company to obtain pre-certification of surgeries based on booking sheet and documents in chart.

Updates surgical authorizations with changes related to booked cases.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures reconciliation of all dropped charges to ensure they match authorized procedures and escalates to appropriate parties, if necessary.

Requirements

  • Three years of experience in a healthcare setting required.
  • Knowledge of medical and insurance terminology, CPT and ICD-10 coding.
  • Computer skills; experience with practice management software preferred.
  • Exceptional organization skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate in other languages is highly desirable.
