Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
- Performs pulling case carts for recovery, preparation of the mayo stand and the back table, counting of instruments and surgical items, passing of surgical instruments, and disinfecting/cleaning of the operating room.
- Captures long-distance recovery logistics for import organ offers.
- Captures operating room and orientations OR staff to the surgical phase of recovery.
- Packages, labels, and transports organs according to STA and OPTN policy.
- Cleans and organizes workrooms and equipment per STA policy.
- Documents surgical phase of the recovery in the electronic donor record in compliance with STA policy and procedures.
- Prepares recovery equipment and supplies for use in the recovery process as needed.
- Aids the recovering surgeon, as needed, by retracting tissue with retractors or forceps.
- Plays a role in placing kidneys on pump, monitoring kidney pumps, and communicating necessary information to transplant coordinators or surgeons.
- Performs kidney biopsies and closes biopsy sites.
- Closes the donor body and recovers lymph nodes and spleens.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

OSHA CATEGORY DEFINITION: Category 1 - The incumbent in this position has the potential of occupational exposure. The incumbent will have access to confidential material and is required to use discretion with this information and comply with STA Confidentiality policy.
Qualifications and Skills
- Direct experience in a healthcare setting is strongly preferred.
- Ability to demonstrate proficiency in packing and labeling organs for transplant as required by OPTN policy.
- Excellent communication skills are required. Must communicate effectively with all personnel levels and represent the organization publicly.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team required.
- Ability to cope with high levels of stress and able to handle a heavy workload.
- Ability to travel in light and commercial aircraft or drive his/her personal auto in order to meet all job duties and responsibilities.
- Current Driver’s license required.
Physical Environment / Working Conditions
Normal office environment, travel in light and commercial aircraft, or automobile in order to meet all the duties and responsibilities of the position.
