Surgical Coordinator

About the role

A surgical coordinator, or surgery scheduler, maintains the schedule for a surgeon or department of surgeons in a medical facility. The role involves arranging the surgery schedule, ensuring patients complete necessary pre-surgery steps, and managing the administrative aspects of patient care.

Responsibilities

• Tracks and documents client medical information
• Schedules surgical procedures
• Confirms insurance
• Organizes the schedule for each surgeon
• Coordinates and schedules surgeries, follow-up appointments as designated by physicians
• Interacts with patients, physicians, and other staff both within the clinic and at outside facilities
• Routes all paperwork as required to meet physician and facility requirements
• Documents work processes as required
• Follows all written protocols and procedures of the clinic
• Demonstrates courtesy and helpfulness toward patients and their families
• Recognizes and responds appropriately to urgent/emergent situations per protocols
• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with physicians, staff, and management
• Books surgeries based on physician volume, maintaining appropriate standard turn-around times
• Identifies scheduling barriers and implements solutions to improve scheduling results based on predetermined goals
• Follows established surgery center/hospital precautions and procedures to ensure a safe work environment
• Adheres to policies regarding safety, confidentiality, and HIPAA guidelines

Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED)
• 2 years of working experience in the medical field or customer service
• Healthcare experience a plus
• Knowledge of insurance requirements and medical terminology preferred
• Minimum 1-2 years scheduling experience
• Experience with ECW strongly preferred
• Bilingual (Spanish / English) is a plus but not a requirement
