Surgery Veterinary Technician
About the role
MedVet is a fast-growing Emergency and Specialty provider with practices nationwide. We help our patients receive advanced medical treatments and innovations such as chemotherapy and radiation, cardiac ablations, treatments for glaucoma, physical rehabilitation, dermatology, and more. We are looking for collaborative and driven Surgery Veterinary Technicians to join our clinical team in a fast-paced environment. This role is perfect for technicians seeking training in multiple facets of the department and interaction with other hospital teams. Strong communication skills are essential to liaise between surgeons, clients, and deliver post-operative care instructions.
Responsibilities
- Manage appointments, obtain patient histories, maintain medical records, handle invoicing, and process patient discharges
- Fill medications, enter charges, maintain accurate medical records, and schedule appointments
- Create patient releases and navigate client conversations around treatment plans and financial obligations
- Prepare patients for surgery, including shaving, scrubbing, and positioning; assist with intubation and radiographs
- Proficiently perform blood draws and submit bloodwork
- Ensure documentation is accurate and complete
- Open, turn over, and clean operating rooms, as well as clean instruments and wrap packs
Requirements
- State Registered Veterinary Technician license preferred
- Prior veterinary experience required; previous surgery experience desired
- Proficient in calculations (drugs, constant rate infusions, unit conversions, etc.)
- Flexibility with work hours and ability to work additional hours when necessary
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
