Surgery Patient Representative Assistant / Surgery Waiting Room
About the Role
The Surgery Patient Representative Assistant is a member of the Department of Consumer Relations and provides services to families and patients in the Surgery Waiting Lounge. This role supports surgeons and surgical staff with needs related to the waiting area, ensuring a calm, quiet environment while promoting the flow of information between hospital staff, physicians, and waiting family members.
The assistant works under the direction of the SWL/ICU Team Leader for day-to-day operations of the Surgery Waiting Lounge, with flexible hours and responsibility for directing Surgery Waiting Lounge Volunteers. Under certain circumstances, direction may also be received from the managers of Surgical Services and the Director of Volunteer Services. All materials are handled in a highly confidential manner.
Responsibilities
- Maintain a calm, quiet environment in the Surgery Waiting Lounge.
- Facilitate communication between hospital staff, physicians, and waiting family members.
- Support the needs of surgeons and surgical staff related to the waiting area.
- Direct and oversee Surgery Waiting Lounge Volunteers.
- Operate in a high-stress environment while managing multiple tasks.
- Handle confidential information with discretion.
Requirements
- High School graduate.
- Experience with physicians, nursing staff, patients, and families is highly desired.
- Outstanding customer service skills.
- Ability to operate in a high-stress environment and manage multiple tasks.
- Maturity and ability to interact with a diverse range of people from various economic, social, racial, and cultural backgrounds.
- Strong oral communication and telephone skills.
- Ability to interact with employees at all levels of the organization.
Schedule
6:00 am – 8:30 pm, as needed, with varied hours per week.
