About the role

The Director of the Stein Eye Institute Surgery Center is expected to be self-directed, exercising sound judgment while applying established standards, policies, and procedures. Reporting to the Executive Director of Perioperative Services, the Director is responsible for the clinical, operational, financial, human resources, materials management, and communication functions of the Stein Eye Institute Surgery Center.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all areas of the Stein ASC, including operating rooms, procedure rooms, pre- and post-treatment units, sterile processing, administrative support services, and implant coordination.
  • Provide 24-hour accountability for the safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery of perioperative patient care.
  • Ensure continuous readiness for regulatory, licensing, and accreditation requirements.
  • Partner with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and institutional leaders to advance patient safety, quality outcomes, patient access, operational excellence, and fiscal performance.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree required, with at least one degree in Nursing.
  • Current Valid CA Nursing License.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of acute care nursing experience.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a Registered Nurse in the Operating Room.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of perioperative leadership or management experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage disaster incidents, sentinel events, and other complex clinical situations using sound judgment and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong knowledge of perioperative nursing practice, patient safety principles, regulatory requirements, and professional standards.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Knowledge of UCLA policies, procedures, and organizational standards.
  • Prioritized responsibilities, manage competing demands, and lead in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate clinical and operational initiatives.
  • Ability to educate, mentor, and develop staff while fostering a culture of accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in Perioperative Nursing (CNOR).
  • Nursing Professional Leadership certification, such as ANCC Nurse Executive Certification or AONL Nurse Leader Certification.
  • Experience leading teams within an ambulatory surgery center and/or academic medical center environment.

Salary Range

$162,200 - $392,000
