About the role
The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating the work of unlicensed and licensed staff within the operating room. They will also manage operational and staffing matters, ensuring that all equipment and supplies are complete and functioning properly before each surgical procedure.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate the work of unlicensed and licensed staff including charge nurses in the unit.
- Manage quality and effectiveness of care given by staff.
- Adequately schedule surgical procedures.
- Ensure all equipment and supplies are complete and functioning properly before each surgical procedure.
- Ensure sterile processing meets regulatory standards.
- Advise the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) on nursing and administrative issues of the unit.
- Ensure compliance with quality assurance, safety, infection control, and environmental procedures in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Utilize efficient managerial skills and critical thinking to optimize expense control.
- Develop subordinates and ensure succession planning.
- Prioritize projects and use time management to maximize efficiencies.
- Use management process to gather data, identify issues, identify remedies, and implement solutions.
- Clarify customer needs and establish customer service initiatives to ensure ultimate customer service is provided in order to achieve targeted outcomes.
- Work cooperatively with physicians to establish and maintain their practice, clinical requirements, and effectively manage the physician practice needs.
- Promote communication with attending physicians and house staff to meet specific patient needs.
- Collaborate with Human Resources to handle administrative proceedings.
- Engage in self-improvement and training activities for subordinates to ensure the strategic goals and objectives are met.
- Demonstrate an understanding of organizational processes and procedures and adhere to the approved process. Ensure subordinates follow approved processes and procedures.
Requirements
- Three years operating room nursing experience to include clinical skills and managerial/leadership functions.
- Current California RN license, Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) Certification preferred.
- BLS, ACLS certified by the American Heart Association.
- Bachelor's in Nursing required, Master's in Nursing preferred.
- Knowledge of program development, fiscal management skills, and familiarity with regulatory and accrediting agency standards preferred.
