Surgery Aide, Case Cart - Methodist Hospital

About the role

Methodist Hospital is seeking a Surgery Aide to join their surgical materials team. The position involves assisting operating room personnel to ensure a clean and safe environment for patient care. The Surgery Aide will be responsible for managing supply inventory, stocking the OR with necessary supplies, and responding to emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Assists operating room personnel to maintain a clean and safe environment for patient care.
• Stocks surgery department with sterile and non-sterile supplies.
• Supplies the OR with supplies and equipment needed for cases.
• Maintains a collaborative, service-oriented relationship with OR Materials staff, OR staff, and surgeons.
• Stocks case carts with sterile supplies for Surgery.
• Prints out scheduled cases from the Surgery IT System.
• Fulfills procedures and work standards for taking supplies off shelves.
• Handles add-on cases and items not filled according to established procedures.
• Responds to the need for disposable items in emergency situations and sends them to the OR.
• Maintains knowledge of supply inventory in the case cart area and identifies by name and location.
• Stocks the department with sterile and clean supplies.
• Maintains cleanliness of the work area (Case Cart Area).
• Demonstrates understanding of customer needs and assumes responsibility to meet them.
• Maintains good communication skills, using courtesy and a helpful attitude on the phone or intercom with OR and other areas of the hospital.

Requirements

• 6 months of patient care experience required.
• Working knowledge of medical terminology.
• Demonstrated understanding of principles of sterile processing and materials handling.
• Knowledge of age-related growth and development principles necessary to provide appropriate service and assure safety of patients.

Preferred Qualifications

• A High School Graduate is preferred.
• Surgical materials handling experience is preferred.
