About the role

This position may be assigned to a variety of service roles throughout WVUH, including Material Handling Attendant, Equipment Handling Attendant, Housekeeping Assistant, Dietetic Assistant, Support Associate, and Linen Services Attendant. The role reports to the Central Transport Department at the start of each shift to receive the daily assignment and must work in the assigned department and position for that shift. Assignments will be limited to the listed positions and cannot be refused.

Responsibilities

  • Performs all duties assigned to the Support Associate position, including:
    • Transporting patients to and from testing areas and other locations as needed
    • Transporting various items throughout the facility
    • Providing support to the patient care team and attending to specified patient needs
  • Performs all duties assigned to the Housekeeping Assistant position, including:
    • Cleaning assigned areas using proper procedures
    • Maintaining productivity and cost-effectiveness
    • Working as part of a team
  • Performs all duties assigned to the Dietetic Assistant position, including:
    • Patient tray line (meal assembly)
    • Dish room and utility tasks (floors, trash)
    • Cafeteria service and cold food production
    • Delivering high-quality food and service to patients and customers as part of a team
  • Performs all duties assigned to the Linen Services Attendant position, including:
    • Retrieval, processing, and distribution of linen
  • Performs all duties assigned to the Material Handling Attendant position, including:
    • Receiving, inventorying, stocking, issuing, handling, and distributing supplies, equipment, and instrumentation
    • Maintaining adequate inventory levels for Surgical Services room stock
  • Performs all duties assigned to the Equipment Handling Attendant position.

Requirements

  • Must have a valid Food Service Worker Permit (FSWP) from the Monongalia County Health Department (MCHD) prior to starting OR obtain a temporary MCHD FSWP no later than the first Wednesday of employment and a permanent MCHD FSWP within one month of the start date (next available class).
  • Must maintain a valid MCHD FSWP throughout employment.
  • Obtain certification in HeartSaver First Aid within 30 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Skills

  • Math skills necessary for counting, inventory, and converting quantities (e.g., each/box/case).
  • Excellent communication skills (both phone and in-person).
  • Ability to work in a high-stress environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Heavy/hard work requiring strength and stamina, including:
    • Lifting, moving, stopping, and reaching
    • Positioning and lifting patients weighing up to 50 pounds
    • Lifting up to 60 pounds
    • Standing for the entire shift
    • Pushing/pulling carts or beds weighing up to 200 pounds
    • Pulling a fully loaded meal cart up to 250 pounds
    • Pushing loaded supply carts weighing in excess of 600 pounds
  • Ability to walk for long periods of time.
  • Must possess visual and oral acuity.

Working Environment

  • Ability to work effectively in a noisy setting and under deadline pressures.
  • Work area may be hot and/or wet.
  • Exposure to cleaning and dishwashing chemicals.

Schedule

  • Hours: 1:00 PM – 11:30 PM
  • Scheduled weekly hours: 40
  • Shift: Evening (United States of America)
