Job Description
Aid in ensuring top-notch patient care by supporting nursing personnel (including charge nurse and Director of Nursing) on a designated unit during your assigned work hours. May be required to cover shifts as needed.
- Provide resident care according to the Nursing Practice Act, under the guidance of a Registered Nurse.
- Delegate tasks to non-licensed nursing personnel and monitor their performance under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
- Prepare a work schedule as necessary.
- Contribute to Quality Assurance data collection and assist in implementing corrective actions.
- Participate in infection control efforts for the unit.
- Assure initial nursing assessments for new admissions.
- Attend Nurse Department meetings as scheduled.
- Maintain decubitus monitoring and complete integument watch assessment forms accurately.
- Report any potential performance issues to the RN for further investigation.
- Document performance concerns appropriately for the RN's use in the disciplinary process.
- Handle lab requests as per facility policy, ensuring accurate documentation and communication with physicians.
- Implement order changes as directed by the MD.
- Support the healthcare team, including rehab aides, and coordinate their duties and assignments.
- Perform CPR as needed and assist with emergencies on other units.
- Notify attending physicians of changes or illnesses among patients.
- Coordinate with the medical team to ensure comprehensive nursing summaries and complete records.
- Provide hall coverage as requested.
Job Requirements
- High school graduate.
- Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with a current, valid license in North Carolina.
- Quality nursing care, adherence to doctor’s orders, and a genuine interest in geriatric nursing.
- CPR certification annually and participation in in-service training and staff meetings.
- Ability to make informed decisions about nursing and unit issues, handle stress, and perform various jobs.
- Compliance with personnel, department, and facility policies, as well as local, state, and federal regulations.
- Physical capability to maneuver medication and treatment carts and other nursing equipment.
- Background check and drug-free workplace requirement.
