About the role

Performs causative research to resolve critical inventory discrepancies in a warehouse environment.

Responsibilities

• Performs extensive research on inventory discrepancies and imbalances identified through warehouse denials, customer complaints/inquiries, physical inventory counts, location surveys, and special inspections.
• Determines the causes of discrepancies and makes or coordinates appropriate adjustments to correct inventory records and documents.
• Processes Supply Discrepancy Reports (SDRs) through research and resolution.
• Performs Shelf-Life updates and Care of Supplies in Storage (COSIS) on stock as required.
• Participates in evaluating and analyzing trends for inventory discrepancies.
• Assists specialists in the analysis of automated systems and the implementation of new applications.
• May operate material handling equipment (MHE) such as forklifts and stock selectors to move material.

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. citizen.
• Appointment is subject to the completion of a favorable suitability or fitness determination; unfavorably adjudicated background checks will be grounds for removal.
• Non-Critical Sensitive with Secret Access security requirements.
• Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA): Non-Exempt.
• Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered or exempt from Selective Service.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Material Handling Equipment (MHE) license.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain licenses and/or certifications required by the installation, federal, state, and local laws.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state driver’s license/certification to operate government vehicles.
• Pre-Employment Physical: Required.

Qualifications

To qualify for a Supply Technician, your resume and supporting documentation must support:

• Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position. To qualify at the GS-07 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military, or private sector. Creditable specialized experience includes:
  • Conducting physical inventories and location surveys.
  • Investigating stock/record/material discrepancies impacting inventory balances or Supply Discrepancy Reports (SDRs).
  • Preparing reports concerning results of investigations performed.
• Education: As a general rule, education is not creditable above GS-05 for most positions covered by this standard; however, graduate education may be credited in those few instances where the graduate education is directly related to the work of the position.
• Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social).

If using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program.

Physical Demands

• Work is performed in office settings and warehouses.
• Requires standing on hard surfaces for extended periods, bending, stooping, reaching, and twisting in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
• Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 pounds; heavier items may require assistance or use of materials handling equipment.
• Must be capable of accomplishing emergency escape procedures from a captive aisle stock selector at heights of 40 feet.

Work Environment

• Involves moderate risks or discomforts requiring special safety precautions, such as working around moving parts, carts, or machines.
• Exposure to adverse weather conditions or irritant chemicals may occur.
• Employees may be required to use protective clothing or gear, such as masks, coats, safety shoes, goggles, hearing protection, and/or gloves.
