About the Role

As a Supervisory Sales Associate, you will be the face of our company to both associates and customers, highlighting our brand and image while contributing to our reputation as a company that values its customers and their opinions. You will assist customers, help them recognize the need for our products and services, and lead a team of associates in a positive and productive work environment. Through continuous learning, you will stay current on the products we sell and articulate our purpose in an educational, insightful, and professional manner.

Responsibilities

  • Customer Service
    • Proactively engage and connect with customers by asking questions and listening to their needs.
    • Direct customers to merchandise, inform them about upcoming events, promotions, mobile offers, and the STAR card.
    • Provide premier customer service, build positive and inclusive relationships, and take accountability for your actions and outcomes.
  • Organization
    • Maintain store appearance.
  • Sales
    • Cross-sell products and know the store layout.
    • Make suggestions to customers on the latest trends and current promotions based on their individual needs.
    • Upsell products, learn product features, and keep up with the latest trends using company tools and technology.
    • Use a Point-of-Sale system to process cash, exchanges, discounts, gift cards, credit cards, and debit cards.
    • Handle cash, including counting money and returning accurate amounts to customers.
    • Complete various forms of paperwork, reports, and reconciliation.
  • Inventory
    • Manage merchandise, complete all inventory processes, and ensure merchandise is properly checked in and accurately ticketed.
    • Participate in periodic inventories.
    • Responsible for the security of cash, fixed assets, and merchandise inventory.
    • Provide direction on assignments, prioritize projects and tasks, and manage merchandise and inventory.
  • Dependability
    • Adhere to assigned work schedule and follow through accurately and completely on work assignments.
  • Supervisory
    • Provide effective leadership, direct, train, and motivate associates, and set a positive example.
    • Provide coaching and feedback in a timely and professional manner.
    • Assign work, provide training to sales associates, and give input to the Department Manager on associate performance.
    • May open and close locations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Product Knowledge
    • Moderate level of knowledge of products and merchandise.
    • Provide training and documentation to sales associates on product features.
  • Experience
    • 1-2 years of retail or relevant work experience required.
    • 1 year of lead or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Communication Skills
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Ability to read, write, and interpret instructional documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
    • Effectively communicate with customers, peers, and management.
    • Proper telephone etiquette.
  • Mathematical Skills
    • Basic math functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
    • Ability to use a calculator and calculate percentages and ratios.
    • Ability to make change in American monetary units.
  • Reasoning Ability
    • Ability to multi-task while remaining attentive to customers and flexible to the needs of the business.
    • Ability to work as part of a team and take initiative independent of direct supervision.
    • Ability to defuse escalated exchanges and create win-win situations.
  • Physical Demands & Work Environment
    • Constant moving, talking, hearing, reaching, and grabbing, with standing for at least two consecutive hours.
    • May occasionally involve stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders.
    • Vision abilities include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
    • Involves lifting at least 25 lbs. and up to 50 lbs. in some departments.
    • Work typically performed indoors but may be assigned outdoors depending upon location.
  • Other Skills
    • Enthusiastic, friendly, and energetic with a desire to provide outstanding service.

Qualifications

  • General Experience
    • 1 year of responsible experience in clerical, office, or retail sales store work demonstrating the ability to perform satisfactorily in the position to be filled.
  • Specialized Experience
    • 1 year of progressively responsible experience in retail sales performing duties relevant to the position.
  • Substitution of Education for Experience
    • Study completed in a college, university, or junior college above the high school level may be substituted on the basis of one-half academic year of study for 6 months of experience.
    • At any level, specialized experience may be substituted for required general experience.
  • Candidates must demonstrate in their work experience or training that they possess or have the potential to develop the qualities of successful supervision.

Schedule

Full-Time (35+ hours). Available to work a variety of hours, which may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. May work across multiple departments based upon business needs.
