Supervisory Nurse (WIPCC)
This position provides leadership, direction, and technical expertise in the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of nursing services to maintain continuity of comprehensive nursing care at Gallup Indian Medical Center. The incumbent directly supervises the Walk-In Primary Care Clinic. A REAL ID will be required beginning May 7, 2025, in accordance with 6 C.F.R. 37.5 (2021).
Responsibilities
- Supervise, direct, and coordinate all aspects of an outpatient clinic's nursing unit by providing leadership, direction, and technical expertise in planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of work performance and delivery of nursing services.
- Manage the clinical unit by ensuring adequate staffing, organizational functions, unit safety (including a safety management program), and effective Branch communications (e.g., planning and disseminating information through unit meetings).
- Maintain competency in current nursing skills, knowledge, practices, procedures, leadership, and management abilities.
- Perform nursing care duties as needed to maintain nursing skills and cover staffing shortages.
- Perform professional assessments on patients of all ages.
- Provide clinical oversight, prioritize patient flow, oversee daily clinic operations, monitor workload and performance metrics, and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Conduct performance management, mentor staff, develop and implement policies, monitor clinical outcomes, and lead continuous process improvement initiatives.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- This is a designated position covered by Public Law 101-630, requiring contact or control over Indian children. The agency must ensure that persons hired have not been found guilty of or pleaded nolo contendere or guilty to certain crimes.
- A one-year supervisory/managerial probationary period may be required upon selection/placement.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education to perform the duties of the specific position.
- Education: A graduate or higher-level degree, bachelor’s degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. The program must be accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
- Foreign Education: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
- Licensure: Applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination and possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
- Minimum Qualifications (GS-12): At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service, including:
- Supervising a high-volume Walk-In Primary Care Clinic.
- Providing leadership, operational oversight, and managing staffing schedules.
- Evaluating nursing personnel and ensuring clinical oversight.
- Prioritizing patient flow and monitoring daily clinic operations.
- Monitoring workload, performance metrics, and maintaining regulatory compliance.
- Implementing performance management, mentoring staff, and developing policies.
- Monitoring clinical outcomes and leading continuous process improvement initiatives.
