About the Role
Serve as the Chief of the Environmental Division, responsible for installation conservation, natural, and cultural resources management.
Responsibilities
- Supervise professional and technical staff and oversee contractor personnel. Plan, assign, and review work.
- Guide, advise, coach, teach, and empower individuals and teams.
- Develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate programs for conservation and natural resources management, including wildland fire, endangered species, fish and wildlife, inventory, monitoring, permitting, and compliance activities.
- Provide input to the annual work plan, develop five-year plans, and make adjustments as needed for the Environmental Division.
- Prepare a variety of documents, including correspondence, reports, briefing slides, and policy statements.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure continued physical health and ability to perform the duties of the position.
- Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
- Possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver’s License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- Obtain and maintain Cyber work roles at proficiency levels:
- Qualification requirements within 9 months.
- Resident qualification requirements within 12 months.
- 20 hours of Continuous Professional Development per work role code.

To qualify, you must meet the following experience or education requirements:
- Basic Requirement:
- Have a bachelor’s degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. (Transcripts required.)
- OR a combination of education and experience which includes courses equivalent to a major in the fields listed above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. (Transcripts required.)
- Specialized Experience:
- One year of specialized experience including:
- Working on environmental programs to comply with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and Endangered Species Act (ESA).
- Preparing or reviewing environmental documentation or permits to ensure compliance.
- Determining the impact of proposed projects on the environment or natural resources.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
- One year of specialized experience including:
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
Foreign Education: If using education completed in foreign colleges or universities, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program.
