SUPERVISORY GENERAL ENGINEER/ARCHITECT
About the role
You will serve as a Supervisory General Engineer/Architect, also known as the Supervisory Construction Manager, in Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command Mid-Atlantic, at the Resident Officer in Charge of Construction (ROICC) office in Great Lakes.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a member/lead and/or supervisor of a team of engineers/architects and technicians performing a full range of multidisciplinary engineering responsibilities related to military construction (MILCON) and construction quality assurance.
- Utilize and research knowledge of advanced concepts, principles, and practices in engineering/architecture to advise in the area of construction practices and techniques in the development of construction project specifications or feasibility considerations.
- Establish and monitor site and project specific procedures and submission of reports aimed at expediting the work of construction contractors.
- Assist in and/or seek out solutions to problems involving the areas of all disciplines of engineering and project financing which are the result of design errors, unforeseen conditions, or changes.
- Evaluate construction progress and safe performance of contracted work during site visits.
Requirements
Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
You will be required to possess and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
You will be required to maintain a current Professional Engineering or Architect license.
Qualifications
Selective Placement Factor (SPF): This position has an SPF which is current registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Registered Architect (RA) in any state, the District of Columbia, Guam or Puerto Rico. Do you meet this requirement? Note - if you respond "YES", you must provide a copy of your current registration with your application. The registration must show the date of currency or additional documentation must be provided from the registration agency showing the dates the registration is current. A copy of a wall certificate that does not show current registration status will not serve to verify you meet this requirement.
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Benefits
Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

Pay grades range from GS-13 to GS-15.
Schedule
The schedule for this position is typically Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
