About the Role
Supervises an assigned team of up to twelve children/youth, consisting of direct care professionals and volunteers. Serves as a first-level supervisor for assigned staff, conducting program evaluations of classroom and activity areas, identifying improvement needs, and implementing corrective action plans within prescribed timeframes. May assume responsibilities of the Program Director or Assistant Director as the Manager on Duty in their absence.
Works with the Training Specialist to conduct written observations of assigned direct care professionals during all operational hours, evaluating employees against established performance standards. Resolves personnel-related complaints, provides guidance on work and administrative matters, and promotes safety, fitness, health, and nutrition practices.
Responsibilities
- Supervise a team of direct care professionals and volunteers responsible for up to twelve children/youth.
- Conduct and review program evaluations for classroom and activity areas, identifying deficiencies and implementing corrective actions.
- Serve as Manager on Duty, assuming the responsibilities of the Program Director or Assistant Director when assigned.
- Collaborate with the Training Specialist to observe and evaluate direct care professionals during all operational hours.
- Resolve personnel-related complaints and provide advice, counsel, or instruction on work and administrative matters.
- Promote and model safety, fitness, health, and nutrition practices.
- Work both indoors and outdoors, including travel to field trips.
- Report all suspected incidents of child abuse as legally required.
Requirements
- Direct Deposit and Social Security Card are required.
- A one-year probationary period may be required.
- Must satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.
- May work an uncommon tour of duty, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- This position involves regular contact with children under the age of 18; a favorably adjudicated background check is required per Section 231 of the Crime Control Act of 1990 and DoD Instruction 1402.05.
- Must comply with immunization requirements, including influenza and other communicable diseases, as recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP).
- Must pass a pre-employment physical and subsequent physicals, providing evidence of immunization and freedom from communicable disease.
- Must complete all DoD and Service training requirements, including orientation, initial, and annual ongoing training, as well as any required certifications.
- Must maintain current CPR and First Aid certifications.
- Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Must have the visual and auditory capabilities to supervise children and youth and comply with sight and sound supervision requirements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required.
Qualifications
Resumes must clearly demonstrate relevant experience, skills, knowledge, and abilities pertinent to this position.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree in child development, early childhood education, elementary or secondary education, home economics (early childhood emphasis), special education, or other fields appropriate to the position. For Child Development Facilities, the education must be directly related to child development, early childhood education, or related behavioral sciences.
- OR a combination of education and experience:
- 24 semester hours in the majors listed above or a related field, plus
- Six months of experience supervising or leading caregivers within child/youth facility-based programs.
- Experience managing in a classroom setting within child and youth programs.
- Experience implementing and overseeing a structured child and youth program curriculum.
- Demonstrated verbal communication skills through conducting training, delivering presentations, or leading meetings with parents and/or staff.
Proof of education is required at the time of application. Education must be directly related to the position; general education courses do not count toward the credit total.
