Supervises an assigned team of direct care professionals and volunteers responsible for up to twelve children/youth.
Responsibilities
- Serves as first-level supervisor for assigned staff.
- Conducts and reviews program evaluations of classroom and activity areas; identifies improvement needs and implements corrective action plans within prescribed timeframes.
- May serve as Manager on Duty, assuming responsibilities of the Program Director or Assistant Director in their absence.
- Works with the Training Specialist to conduct written observations of direct care professionals during all operational hours and evaluates employees against established performance standards.
- Resolves personnel-related complaints; provides advice, counsel, or instruction on work and administrative matters.
- Promotes and models safety, fitness, health, and nutrition practices.
- Legally required to report all suspected incidents of child abuse.
Requirements
- Direct Deposit and Social Security Card are required.
- One-year probationary period may be required.
- Must satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.
- Duties may involve working both indoors and outdoors, including evenings, weekends, and holidays to accommodate program schedules.
- May require travel to indoor and outdoor field trips.
- Regular contact with children under the age of 18; favorably adjudicated background checks are required per Section 231 of the Crime Control Act of 1990 and DoD Instruction 1402.05.
- Subject to immunization requirements as a condition of employment, including influenza vaccine and others recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP).
- Must pass a pre-employment physical and subsequent physicals; provide evidence of immunization and be free from communicable disease.
- Must complete all DoD and Service training requirements within specified timeframes, including orientation, initial, and annual ongoing training, and required certifications.
- Must maintain current CPR and First Aid certifications.
- Able to follow verbal and written instructions and communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Must have the ability to use Microsoft Office Suite.
- Must possess the visual and auditory capabilities to supervise children and youth, comply with sight and sound supervision requirements, and provide immediate responses when applicable.
Qualifications
Resumes must clearly demonstrate relevant experience, skills, knowledge, and abilities. Education must be directly related to the position (general psychology/sociology courses are not qualifying).
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree in child development, early childhood education, elementary or secondary education, home economics (early childhood emphasis), elementary education, special education, or other fields appropriate to the position. For Child Development Facilities, the education must be in one of these fields or a directly related behavioral science.
- OR Combination of Education and Experience: 24 semester hours in the majors stated above or a related field, plus appropriate experience.
- Experience: Must possess all of the following:
- Six months experience supervising or leading caregivers within child/youth facility-based programs.
- Experience managing in a classroom setting within child and youth programs.
- Experience implementing and overseeing a structured child and youth program curriculum.
- Demonstrated verbal communication skills gained through conducting training, delivering presentations, conducting meetings with parents and/or staff, or similar.
Proof of education is required at the time of application. Transcripts must be in English, legible, and reflect the name of the school and applicant. Foreign education must be evaluated by a private organization specializing in interpretation of foreign education programs and deemed equivalent to a U.S. education program.
