SUPERVISORY CIVIL ENGINEER

About the Role

You will serve as a SUPERVISORY CIVIL ENGINEER in the PLANNING, DESIGN, AND CONSTRUCTION DIRECTORATE of NAVFAC SOUTHWEST.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and/or direct the preparation of working drawings and specifications, and review construction drawings and specifications.
  • Assign work to subordinates based on priorities, considering the difficulty and requirements of the assignments.
  • Review designs, plans, specifications, and design analyses prepared by others.
  • Resolve complaints from individual employees, address group grievances, investigate serious complaints, and involve HRO as necessary for timely and effective conflict resolution.

Qualifications

This position has a selective placement factor: You must currently be a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in a U.S. state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a U.S. territory.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level, including:

  1. Providing technical expertise and regional interface for design, design review, construction, and rehabilitation of diverse projects within the Civil Engineering Program.
  2. Supervising a technical staff of civilians and mentoring employees in specific tasks, job techniques, and processes.
  3. Monitoring civil engineering and technical performance and providing input into training plans.
  4. Coordinating civil engineering design with other organizational elements and technical disciplines to ensure integration of architecture, structural, mechanical, electrical, and fire protection building systems.
  5. Serving on independent technical review and quality assurance (QA) teams.
  6. Providing technical direction consistent with Navy policy to Field Engineering Commands and Architect-Engineer firms (AE).
