SUPERVISORY ACCOUNTANT.
About the role
Serves as a professional accountant/advisor in the Audit Support Directorate responsible for ensuring DFAS processes, systems, and documentation are sufficient to validate accurate balances reported in financial statements. Ensures federal regulatory guidance and principles are applied to internal control test packages along with timely submission of final products based on OSD Comptroller, Military Service, and Defense Agencies requirements and schedules.
Functions in a supervisory capacity to serve as a trusted partner relating to the development, implementation, and compliance of accounting and finance procedures and policy compliance within an auditable environment.
Responsibilities
- Develops, implements, supports, and enhances business processes, reconciliations, and systems, including ensuring adequate documentation is available to support transaction auditability.
- Develops internal control and operating procedures and analyzes and evaluates their effectiveness, adequacy, and relationships to other systems.
- Provides expert-level professional accounting, finance and reporting services, management advice, and assistance to supported customers in the application of accounting theories, concepts, principles and standards to independently negotiate solutions to the most complex issues related to operational accounting and finance work.
Requirements

- This national security position requires a favorable suitability review and security clearance as a condition of employment. Failure to maintain security eligibility may result in termination.
- Registered for Selective Service (males born after 12-31-1959).
- Suitable for Federal employment.
- Candidates must have served 3 months after latest competitive appointment in the Federal service.
- New employees will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
- Must obtain and maintain a Level 2 Certification under the DoD Financial Management (FM) Certification Program within two years of employment. Failure to become certified may be grounds for removal.
Qualifications
This position has a positive education requirement. To qualify, you must meet one of the following:
- Completion of all requirements for a bachelor's degree in accounting from an accredited college or university; or a degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting (up to 6 hours of credit in business law may be included).
- Combination of education and experience: At least 4 years of accounting experience or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge and 24 semester hours in accounting/auditing courses (which may include up to 6 hours of business law) or a certificate as a Certified Public Accountant or Certified Internal Auditor.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement, qualified applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-12) in the Federal service, demonstrating the ability to perform the duties of the position.

Volunteer experience, including work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, community, student, social), may be credited.
