About the role

Supervises a team of security personnel including guards. Monitors, audits, and maintains contract security requirements and communication under the direction of the Security Director while maintaining constant communication with Building Management.

Responsibilities

  • Patrols buildings, grounds, docks, and worksites periodically, logging information.
  • Supervises a team of security personnel.
  • Examines doors, windows, and gates to ensure they are secure.
  • Warns violators of rule infractions such as loitering, smoking, or carrying forbidden articles.
  • Watches for and reports irregularities, including fire hazards and unsecured doors.
  • Observes departing personnel to guard against theft of company property.
  • Sounds alarms or calls police/fire department in case of fire or unauthorized persons.
  • Checks DVR video recorders daily to ensure live pictures and 24/7 recording.
  • Logs, signs, and dates daily per shift to confirm operational standards.
  • Reports, records, and communicates security team maintenance needs, including emergency repairs.
  • Conducts written Security Officer and Building Safety Audits, including mandatory weekly/monthly per-shift accountability.
  • Submits all reports to the Security Director for final review and filing.
  • Performs daily security post inspections to ensure compliance, guard alertness, reports, truck logs, and yard checks.
  • Verifies post equipment is functioning according to operational standards and provides written reports for deficiencies.
  • Interviews director-level management and associates (e.g., Yard Goat Operators, Lead Floor Supervisors, GT Drivers) to ensure security officers meet standards.
  • Reports deficiencies and ensures immediate corrective action.
  • Reports suspicious activity, including unethical behavior among co-workers, clients, and contractors.
  • Permits authorized persons to enter property.
  • Registers at watch stations to record time of inspection trips.
  • Records data such as property damage and unusual occurrences for management.
  • Regulates vehicle and pedestrian traffic at plant entrances to maintain orderly flow.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Directly manages 15-20 security guards and/or supervisors.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws, including interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning, and directing work.
  • Appraises performance, rewards and disciplines employees, and addresses complaints and resolves problems.
  • May be required to work overtime as needed.

Qualifications

  • High school education; two to five years of related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least one year of supervisory experience.
  • Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and recognize similarities/differences between words and number series.
  • Ability to print and speak simple sentences.
  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers, multiply and divide with 10's and 100's, and perform operations using American units of money, weight, volume, and distance.
  • Ability to apply common sense to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions and deal with standardized situations with occasional or no variables.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, and sit.
  • Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

  • Occasionally exposed to extreme cold and extreme heat.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Pay

Anticipated starting salary range: $65,000 - $70,000. The final starting salary will be determined based on prevailing market conditions, location, and other factors, in accordance with all applicable laws.
