About the Role

The Supervisor of Residential Operations (Home Manager) models person-centered practices and ensures dignity and respect for all individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities while serving as a supervisor for Direct Support Professionals (DSPs). This role ensures high-quality, person-centered services, compliance with regulatory standards, and effective supervision of staff. The SRO acts as a liaison between the DSP team, program management, and families, promoting dignity, independence, and inclusion for all individuals served. They are responsible for the development of activities and coordination of programming and services through staff development, individual support plans, and collaboration under the direction of the Manager of Residential Operations.

Responsibilities

Person-Centered Care and Services (70%)

  • Deliver holistic person-centered care daily, aligned with the Individual Support Plan (ISP).
  • Provide personal care such as bathing, dressing, bathroom assistance, or housekeeping.
  • Prepare and serve meals in accordance with individual diet plans.
  • Administer medication as documented under the direction of a nurse.
  • Use AbleLight’s electronic medical record (EMR) and human resource technology to ensure timely, complete, and objective documentation aligned with medical orders, state requirements, and AbleLight’s quality and internal procedures.
  • Write and enter service delivery documentation into the EMR system and support others through mentoring and feedback.
  • Ensure the Individual Support Plan (ISP) maximizes quality of life, supporting engaging activities to enhance daily living, personal goals, and spiritual supports.
  • Maintain general event reporting (GER) aligned with medical orders, state compliance requirements, abuse reporting, court orders, and AbleLight’s quality and internal procedures.
  • Schedule and take individuals to medical appointments, outings, or errands.
  • Facilitate conversation between DSPs, program managers, families, and external stakeholders.
  • Handle all shopping-related tasks.
  • Oversee vehicle maintenance.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary support teams (e.g., nursing, behavior) to ensure holistic support.
  • Maintain professional behavior and confidentiality.
  • Foster a strong and collaborative working partnership with colleagues, leadership, PWS, and parents & guardians.

Talent & Administration (30%)

  • Function as a front-line supervisor for DSP colleagues, in partnership with the Manager of Residential Operations (MRO).
  • Bring forward recommendations related to quality and process improvements for employees and those served.
  • Escalate topics to the manager as needed.
  • Oversee DSP team schedules, attendance, and performance.
  • Effectively delegate work within the program, conduct regular check-ins, and provide coaching, feedback, and mentoring for DSP staff.
  • Facilitate team meetings and communicate organizational updates.
  • In partnership with operational leaders, human resources, quality, and nursing, welcome, onboard, and train new colleagues, and raise additional training and development needs for staff to the MRO.
  • Coordinate and ensure standard operating procedures are consistently implemented for the residential home(s), including:
    • Auditing health appointments, ISPs, monitoring medical supplies and prescriptions, and conducting monthly facility audits.
    • Ordering food and supplies and allocating receipts to house and program financials.
    • Reconciling and entering personal funds records.
    • Maintaining a clean, safe, and healthy environment in the residence.
    • Maintaining a master calendar of appointments, facility activities, and meetings for the residence.
  • Ensure adherence to state and federal regulations (e.g., Medicaid, HCBS Waiver requirements).
  • Maintain accurate documentation for service delivery, incident reports, and progress notes.
  • Monitor compliance with ISPs and Behavior Support Plans.
  • Conduct audits of records and correct discrepancies promptly.
  • Participate in internal audits and accreditation processes.
  • Address corrective actions from compliance reviews.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One year’s experience in an IDD (Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities) setting in work, volunteer, or educational capacity.
  • Six months or more of leadership experience is preferred (e.g., project management, team/task lead, supervisor).
  • Ability to be flexible with hours and residential settings to assist colleagues and those served.
  • Schedule includes both direct support (program) and administrative (office) workdays, rotating on-call responsibilities (evenings & weekends).
  • Adult CPR and first aid certification if required by local agencies.
  • Driver’s license required if the role involves driving others or is mandated by state regulations.
