About the role

Deriva Energy is a leading Independent Power Producer in the US renewables market, with over 6.5GW of operating or under construction wind, solar, and storage projects across the country. Formerly a division of Duke Energy, Deriva is now backed by Brookfield Renewable and is poised for dynamic growth across its wind, solar, and storage portfolios. The Supervisor Commercial Renewable Operations is responsible for delivering profitable results at a Deriva-owned wind site in the assigned area.

Achieve profitable results through safe, efficient, environmentally sound operations consistent with Deriva policy and industry best practices. Responsible for the safety (human and environmental) and final work product of all persons on-site, including permanent and temporary Deriva staff, contractors, suppliers, and vendors. Maintain positive, transparent, and collaborative working relationships with corporate support functions, landowners, power off-takers, and the broader community. Troubleshoot, maintain, and perform operations in the field, up-tower, and at substations. Lead by example, build strong relationships, and support your team by providing the resources and assistance they need to succeed.

The physical work location is at Los Vientos III, IV, V Wind: 200 FM 490 Rio Grande City, TX, 78582.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshooting and maintaining generation technology.
  • Problem-solving balance of plant (BOP) issues, including roads, gates, substations, and transmission lines (includes climbing turbines regularly).
  • Work planning and oversight of work product delivered through employees and contractors.
  • General administration, including environmental, safety, and regulatory compliance, time sheets, setting individual and business unit goals, driving accountability, and employee coaching/counseling/development.
  • Off-taker, landowner, and community relations.
  • Travel to other assets as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED.
  • 3+ years of technical experience as a Wind Technician.
  • Must have Turbine Technician-1, 2 and Electrical Operator 1 & 2 (Internal candidates).
  • Minimum of 6 years of related work experience.
  • Must pass required JPMs (external candidates).
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to travel to support all Deriva fleet projects.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs individually.
  • Ability to climb turbine towers (up to 375 ft) daily.
  • Exposure to mechanical, electrical, and/or other hazards, noisy/dusty conditions, chemicals, or solvents.
  • Operate equipment including forklifts and commercial motor vehicles.
  • Work in all-weather outdoor conditions (extreme heat, cold, wind, rain, snow).
  • Completion of OEM or third-party technical specialty training program.
  • This position contains a weight restriction of 265 pounds as an essential function of the job.

Qualifications

  • Experience managing wind turbine maintenance/service technicians.
  • Served in a leadership role (Lead Technician, Supervisor, Foreman, etc.), overseeing daily operations and team performance.
  • Ability to complete Supervisor job performance measures within the probationary period.
  • 3 years of technical experience with Deriva Energy as a Wind Technician (preferred).
  • Ability to travel from time to time on an as-needed basis.
  • Experience with multiple wind turbine equipment supplier technologies (preferred).
  • Knowledge of heavy equipment used for facility maintenance and working knowledge of crane and rigging requirements.
  • Proven experience successfully managing and developing wind turbine maintenance technicians.
  • Substation & High Voltage experience.
