About the role

We are looking for a Supervisor, Power Generation Operations to supervise shift operating personnel supporting the daily operations of all Tucson Power Production plant sites. In this role, you will ensure electrical energy is generated in a safe, environmentally compliant, efficient, and reliable manner while enriching our company culture.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and direct staff to operate fossil fuel-fired units safely, efficiently, and economically in alignment with company policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Identify and implement alternative plans and actions in response to changing market/load demands and operating conditions, considering economics, safety, and equipment.
  • Ensure generating units operate within design parameters to meet load requirements.
  • Coordinate daily, preventative, and emergent maintenance tasks across multiple departments and functions.
  • Authorize, hire, promote, assign, and direct staff, including monitoring activities, workflow allocation, staffing/scheduling, and performance reviews.
  • Resolve technical questions and employee relation issues to provide accurate and consistent direction.
  • Complete employee performance reviews and provide mid-cycle feedback.
  • Apply knowledge of plant processes to safely resolve maintenance and operations problems.
  • Review area operations to identify process, procedure, or operational improvements.
  • Recognize and anticipate employee training needs to ensure competency in all job aspects.
  • Assess training needs, recommend training plans, and facilitate qualification sign-offs for union employees.
  • Monitor economic operations of equipment and take corrective action to maintain optimum efficiency.
  • Coordinate with other Power Generation sections to schedule maintenance and operations activities effectively.
  • Ensure units perform within regulatory and design parameters.
  • Execute dispatching directives regarding generation limits and switching procedures.
  • Support system load requirements and perform switching safely and accurately.
  • Administer the Protective Clearance Procedure (LOTO).
  • Oversee and direct all plant activities, including maintenance, when other supervisory personnel are not on duty.
  • Identify viable alternatives and plan activities to limit time delays, equipment downtime, and load reduction.
  • Maintain appropriate records and recordkeeping systems.
  • Manage group budget to ensure cost-effective use of resources.
  • Maintain accurate personnel, budget, and job cost information, analyze variances, and explain differences.
  • Comply with and administer the terms and conditions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Assume fiduciary responsibility for operating the business and recommend cost improvement measures.
  • Ensure the Performance Management program is administered uniformly and effectively.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver’s license in good standing.
  • Minimum of 6 years of journeyman-level experience in Power Plant Operations or equivalent operating experience in a related field.
  • Ability to pass a background check for Critical Infrastructure Protection access.
  • Willingness to work a rotating shift schedule (including nights, weekends, and holidays).

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of prior supervisory experience.
  • Experience in fossil-fired power plants, including:
    • Combustion Turbines
    • Rankine steam cycle
    • Reciprocating Internal Combustion Engines
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of:
    • Plant processes and operations
    • Equipment, parts, and plant layout
    • Budget preparation and analysis techniques
    • Principles and practices of supervision
    • Labor agreement terms and conditions
    • Computer skills necessary for job requirements
    • Regulatory requirements
    • TEP policies and procedures
