Lead Wind Technician at Los Vientos III, IV, V

About the role
This is a full-time, permanent Lead Wind Technician position at the highest technician level within our wind classification hierarchy. Employees at this level solve complex problems, manage work, and provide leadership to others in technical areas of specialization with minimal supervision. You will function in a lead role, guiding other technicians while working independently with advanced skills. The physical work location is at the Los Vientos III, IV, V Wind site: 200 FM 490 Rio Grande City, TX 78582.
Responsibilities
- Lead crews of technicians to complete required duties
- Interact directly with the customer as directed by the manager
- Train and mentor employees as directed by the manager
- Perform operations, planned maintenance, and unplanned maintenance on substation equipment
- Troubleshoot warranty issues
- Complete daily, weekly, and monthly reporting needs
- Work as scheduled during the week and on call as needed or required by manager
- Act as the backup to the active manager
- Assist management with vendor contractual activities, landowner agreements, and ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations
- Maintain a high level of safety awareness at all times
- Climb heights of 300 ft. and greater several times daily
- Diagnose and resolve faults on turbines related to mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic problems
- Perform troubleshooting to identify root causes of issues and execute corrective actions or open service cases with equipment manufacturers
- Perform energy isolation in accordance with Lock Out / Tag Out Procedures
- Perform pad-mounted transformer switching following Hazardous Energy Controls Procedures
- Perform small or large corrective tasks on wind turbines
- Conduct preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, performance monitoring, and evaluation
- Maintain all aspects (electrical, mechanical, civil, etc.) of turbines in a safe, high-quality, and efficient manner
- Maintain EH&S documentation and complete necessary paperwork (work orders, timesheets, tool and PPE inventory) within Maximo
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED
- External Candidates: 6+ years of related work experience
- Internal Candidates: 3+ years of technical experience with Deriva Energy as a Wind Technician, with Turbine Technician-1 and Electrical Operator 1&2 JPM completed
- Must pass required Turbine Technician I and Electrical Operator I&II JPMs within the probationary period
Qualifications
- AAS degree or certification in Wind/Renewable Energy or applicable field of study
- Experience with Vestas V82 and V90 turbines
- Experience with multiple wind turbine supplier technologies
- High voltage and substation maintenance experience
- Familiarity with mechanical and electronic testing equipment (e.g., voltage testers, amp clamps, oscilloscopes, and various hand and power tools)
- Knowledge of heavy equipment for facility maintenance and working knowledge of crane and rigging requirements
- Competency with Maximo EZ Max mobile work and My Time management systems
- Microsoft Office proficiency (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- CPR and AED Training Certification
- TSL tower climber and rescue & EEM training
- Forklift certification
