UPMC is hiring for Supervisor, Police & Security positions at the new Kamin Tower. A $15,000 sign‑on bonus is available for candidates who commit to a full‑time position for two years.
Purpose
Works with and oversees other members of the Police and Security Team to ensure a safe and secure environment for patients, families, visitors, and employees at the hospital facility. In addition to performing as a member of the Police and Security Team, this position also handles administrative tasks, supervises other police and security members, and works harmoniously with hospital management to meet safety goals. Assists with budget preparation and monitoring and resolves day‑to‑day operational issues based on department requirements.
Responsibilities
- Assist in and provide input to staffing decisions (e.g., hiring, firing, promotion).
- Handle and resolve day‑to‑day operational issues and problems.
- Assist with department budget preparation and monitoring.
- Evaluate, discipline, and schedule staff as appropriate.
- Provide reporting as needed.
- Maintain a working relationship with local agencies.
- Review reports of subordinates for accuracy, content, and grammar.
- Train staff, ensure staff obtain and maintain required certifications, and track certification progress.
- Maintain all security systems and department‑issued equipment.
- Functionally referred to as Lieutenant.
Requirements
- Six (6) years of security‑related or law‑enforcement experience OR Act 120 training (or equivalent PA State Police Act Police Academy training, Police Officer training as mandated by the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers) with at least two (2) years of experience in law enforcement or a security‑related field.
- Prior lead or supervisory experience preferred.
- Prior law‑enforcement experience preferred.
- Good knowledge of common technical applications, such as Microsoft Office products (preferred).
- Strong interpersonal skills, especially the ability to effectively interact, communicate, and diffuse potentially combative situations with persons from all walks of life.
- Psychological fitness to deal with stress and potentially dangerous conflict situations.
- Physical fitness sufficient to meet typical physical demands, including full‑body motion, strength, stamina, crisis interventions, and medical emergencies.
- Good hand/eye coordination and ability to pass an eye and hearing test with appropriate correction.
- Ability to perform as a security officer when necessary.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances
- Act 235 – all state‑mandated paperwork submitted within 6 months of hire or placement, and process completed within 9 months of hire or placement in PA.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
- Valid driver’s license.
- UPMC Physical Fitness Standard.
- Act 235 with firearms (renewal).
- Act 235 without firearms (renewal).
- Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting (renewal).
- Act 33 (renewal).
- Act 34 (renewal).
- Act 501.
- Act 73 FBI clearance (renewal).
