Supervisor, Plant Accounting

About the role

This position has direct responsibility for preparing, inputting, and reviewing journal entries relating to Product Costing to accomplish the monthly financial close. Additional responsibilities include preparation of month-end statements, monthly key performance indicator reports, assisting with property tax reports and payments, and maintaining documentation to satisfy Sarbanes Oxley requirements.

Indirect responsibilities include preparing journal entries and reporting on Natural Gas, Electricity, and Catalyst, tracking and reporting capital projects, assisting with internal and external audits, yearly budget preparation, quarterly updates, and providing reports as requested by the corporate office or manufacturing site. Effective communication with other departments is vital. This position supervises Accountant and Sr. Accountant level staff.

Responsibilities

• Financial Close Process including Product Costing:
  • Review, analysis, and journal preparation for all turnaround costs
  • Entry and reconciliation of production and transfer tons
  • Distributions and assessment processing
  • Processing of product costing
• Chemical Inventory Calculation and journal entry preparation for chemical inventory cost
• Cost analysis and reporting
• Local Key Performance Indicators:
  • Cost analysis and reporting
  • Variance Analysis (Monthly Plant Cost Variance Analysis)
• Local Financial & Cost Reporting Enhancements
• Finished Goods Inventory Reconciliation (assist in reconciliation and tracking of finished goods shipments)
• Asset Componentization and Closure:
  • Assist with preparation and distribution of the AFE Status Report each month
  • Assist with the close of AFEs to fixed assets accurately and on a timely basis
• Internal Controls:
  • Establish and implement processes and procedures to meet departmental internal controls requirements
  • Ensure established processes/procedures are followed as designed
  • Work with Internal Controls Department to identify deficiencies, the need for new processes, and compliance
  • Develop and implement corrective actions regarding department internal controls

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree with a major in Accounting or equivalent
• Five to seven years of experience in various areas of accounting with increasing levels of responsibility
• Minimum of one year of supervisory experience in an accounting environment
• CPA preferred
• Proficient with basic computer skills and fundamental working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
• Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities
• Strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills
