About the Role
Leads, motivates, and develops a technical team of maintenance employees to perform equipment repair and preventative maintenance procedures. Drives losses out of systems, creates consistent standard approaches, and achieves production results while improving individual skills and enhancing teamwork.
Responsibilities
- Directs daily maintenance operations for assigned areas.
- Directs the activities of employees to perform equipment repair and preventative maintenance procedures.
- Directs or performs layout work for each project as needed; consults with engineers and vendors.
- Ensures repairs are done correctly and efficiently.
- Supports site-wide maintenance functions, including packaging, process, mechanical, electrical, building maintenance, and stationary engineering.
- Improves reliability of production lines and reduces machinery downtime.
- Optimizes maintenance and operating efficiencies by minimizing costs and implementing key performance indicators.
- Works with Engineering & Technical Services to ensure seamless introduction of capital projects and automation advancements.
- Ensures regulatory compliance in health & safety, environmental standards, and equipment operations.
- Builds the maintenance team’s capability to execute world-class maintenance systems, including predictive and preventive maintenance, MRO inventory control, and maintenance planning.
- Develops the team’s troubleshooting skills for technical and process failures, recognizing when and how to seek support.
- Manages employees: directs work activities, monitors performance, collaborates with HR on hiring, disciplinary actions, and compensation decisions.
- Promotes a cooperative and harmonious work environment to foster positive morale and productivity.
- Participates in team development, communication, and implementation of programs and policies.
- Identifies and resolves areas lacking cohesiveness, reinforcing actions to achieve synergy within the organization.
- Adheres to Simmons’ operating systems (e.g., quality, security, LEAN) and understands the role in supporting these systems.
- Performs other duties as necessary to support business objectives.
Requirements
- Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical systems, electrical, safety, and preventative maintenance programs.
- Preference for experience leading a maintenance team.
- Willingness to lead, take charge, and offer opinions and direction.
- Ability to read and write English.
- Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and techniques for maximizing manufacturing efficiency.
- Understanding of business and management principles, including strategic planning, resource allocation, and leadership techniques.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and familiarity with computers.
- Preferred experience within a food processing organization.
- Bachelor’s Degree or 4 years of related work experience, including at least 1 year in a leading role.
- Military experience valued; veterans are welcome.
Working Conditions
- Required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): steel-toed shoes, ear plugs, hair net.
- Physical activities include: entering and locating information on a computer, visually verifying small print, communicating via telephone, email, or in person, and presenting to groups.
- Ability to work in various temperatures and move about in a manufacturing environment.
- Travel via car or plane to multiple facilities or work-sites, possibly requiring overnight stays.
