The Landscaping Supervisor manages horticulture requirements at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro, TN, using the Medxcel Facilities Management Landscaping Handbook to execute landscaping services efficiently.
Responsibilities
- Administrative & Training:
- Understand and apply the Medxcel Facilities Management Landscaping Handbook to execute plans successfully.
- Plan and organize daily routes, ensuring sufficient resources and materials are available and completed efficiently.
- Ensure all work adheres to safety policies and guidelines; conduct weekly safety training and inspections.
- Organize and prioritize competing tasks at each facility within established parameters.
- Recommend improvements to facilities and present them to management.
- Supervise a team of 5–15 employees (more seasonally as needed), handle personnel issues, and train staff on policies and procedures.
- Complete necessary paperwork, including time sheets and work orders.
- Maintain proper inventory of materials, equipment, and supplies to complete production activities.
- Plan and organize snow removal during winter months.
- Participate in meetings, workshops, training, and seminars as assigned.
- Provide additional support and training to Landscaping Technicians as needed.
- General Landscaping:
- Perform horticultural tasks to maintain attractive landscapes and plant health, including weed control, perennial care, pruning, pest treatments, and routine lawn care.
- Repair, replace, or clean brick pavers; replace dead or damaged plants; repair low-voltage lighting; service fountains or garden ponds; perform minor irrigation repairs.
- Operate equipment such as mowers, backhoes, bobcats, tillers, sod cutters, weed eaters, plant augers, chainsaws, and drills.
- Operate non-CDL automatic and manual vehicles, including dump trucks and truck-trailer combinations.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment, including worksites and equipment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Chemical Treatments:
- Diagnose pest issues, make recommendations, and take remedial action as directed by company policy or management.
- Diagnose other site problems and recommend improvements.
- Apply chemicals under the direction of a licensed custom applicator.
- Special Projects:
- Assist and participate in special projects as assigned.
- Support Facilities Maintenance staff on assigned projects.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent (required)
- Valid state driver’s license (required)
- Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) (preferred)
- Pesticide certification (preferred)
- Five years’ experience in landscaping (required)
- Three years’ supervisory experience (required)
Competencies
- Ability to read and write English
- Proficiency in operating truck and trailer combinations
- Strong oral communication skills, job planning skills, and mechanical aptitude
- Working knowledge of standard horticultural practices, including paver, pond, low-voltage lighting, and irrigation troubleshooting
